Voting in Xaló(Jalón) and the surrounding area
A LingoMar blog update on voting in the municipal elections (Alicante region)
Why Vote?
In the recent political climate we have seen the importance of voting for issues which affect your life both directly and indirectly. If you are from the E.U. and are a resident in Spain or on the padrón in your village then you have the right to exercise your vote in the local (municipal) elections held on 26th May 2019
to influence decisions which may affect you.
As a British citizen, it is looking more and more likely that this may be the last time that we have this right before our exit from the E.U.
Therefore, it is worth informing ourselves about what our local councils are doing to improve our villages and to improve the quality of life for every resident both Spanish and international.
Another added benefit of being on the electoral register is that it supports your case of residency and your right to live in Spain, no matter what happens regarding the future relationship between Britain and the E.U.
How Do I Vote?
The first and most important thing is that you have to put yourself on the electoral register before 30th January 2019
in your local town hall (this is the link to find the town hall in Xaló(Jalón)): https://www.google.com/maps/place/Ajuntament+de+Xal%C3%B3/@38.7401863,-0.0133952,17z/data=!4m8!1m2!2...
Once you are on the electoral register you will receive a voting card at your address well before the election date in May. Then you can have your say!
